A novel fluorescein-bridged perylene bisimide (PBI) dimer for liquid crystal (LC) with geometrically symmetric structure was developed. The mesomorphic results indicated that the energetically stable and unstable conformers of fluorescein fragments could lead to transformation mesophases from a hexagonal columnar mesophase an uncertain phase at 136.9 °C in heating, whilst maintained between 175.6 58.6 cooling. selectively excited fluorescence characters THF solution demonstrated resonance energy transfer (FRET) effect PBI unites provide means effectively impose strong dimeric PBIs modified suitable chromophore N-imide position, which alternatively serves as platform further study multi-functional PBI-based LCs.
